Psychotherapy & Counselling

''I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.''
C. Jung
Experiencing distress, uncertainty, loss, fear or a sense of disconnection can make daily life difficult to navigate. Through a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic process, we will work together to understand your experience, regain confidence & strength and support meaningful, lasting change.
The Practice
Grounded in Transactional Analysis and integrating theory and praxis from Existential Psychotherapy, Jungian Psychoanalysis and Attachment Theory, my therapeutic approach offers a confidential, focused, reflective and safe space to explore the patterns shaping your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. I work with adults over 18 years old.
I am a social justice - minded, environmentally aware, culturally sensitive psychotherapist, with a strong understanding of the different identity parts at play in our psyche: personal upbringing and experiences, neurodiversity, race, pluri-culturalism, faith, gender, sexuality, class, etc. I am passionate about supporting my clients on their exciting journey to integrate past experiences, challenge inauthentic self-constructs and discover new ways of being in the world.

I comply with the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice & the EATA Ethical Code.

Ioana Morpurgo, MA

Ioana is a psychotherapist in advanced training in Transactional Analysis, a widely recognised analytic and psychotherapeutic framework devised by Eric Berne throughout the 1960s and 70s to adapt the outdated Freudian psychoanalytic model to contemporary dynamics.
Transactional Analysis bases its practice in the model of a three-part psyche: the Parent Ego State (social norms and authority figures introjects), Adult Ego State (our present proportionately engaged self) & Child Ego State (the seat of our 'shadow' self, where we store false beliefs, rigid representations, unconscious drives and desires, unprocessed memories, unexplored fears but also the potential for better, deeper, happier versions of ourselves.)
Ioana offers a protective, empowering, reflective and confidential environment for her clients on their journey to self-awareness, freedom and interpersonal well-being. Her clinical work combines scientific methodology with a relational humanistic approach to encourage sustainable change. Her framework incorporates radical and existential perspectives.
She holds a Master's Degree in Cultural Anthropology & Political Sciences and is working towards completion of Level 7 (MSc) advanced training in Transactional Analysis. She is a Registered Member of UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), UK Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA) and European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA) and of PEN (Writers for Freedom of Expression)
She occasionally publishes academic essays on culture, politics and psychotherapy, plays the piano and lives with her family in West Dorset, UK.
